For a long time I thought that because I wasn’t loud and intimidating like many of the stereotypes of leadership I had modeled for me in my early career that a leadership role wouldn’t be in the cards for me. And to be honest I didn’t want to have to act like that to lead a team anyways! But despite that self doubt, I continually found myself thrust into leadership roles. Whether it was leading a group project because I could mediate between all parties, being voted into a leadership role in my sorority because I was trustworthy, to getting a job as a manager with little experience because I was enthusiastic and willing to learn. I made a career change in my mid 20s that took me from journalism to managing a large team in a very fast paced environment. As in 500 plus clients a day who were very passionate about riding stationary bikes.
